Ave Roll

Ave Roll came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 2000s, led by MC Brinquedo. Their 2006 track "Cadê Minha Grana" became a breakout hit, with its direct lyrics about money and struggle connecting with listeners in the city's neighborhoods. The song helped define a rougher, more explicit corner of Brazilian funk sometimes called proibidão.

Their music often drew criticism from conservative groups and police, who saw the lyrics as promoting trouble. MC Brinquedo had his own run-ins with the law, including a 2013 arrest for drug possession. But for many fans, that edge was part of the appeal, the songs felt like they came straight from the streets.

Beyond "Cadê Minha Grana," they had other tracks like "Amor 2 Cabeça" and "Dança do Verão" that kept their sound in rotation. Their debut album Funk do Morro came out in 2006, and later work touched on hip-hop and reggae influences while staying rooted in that raw funk energy.
