Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks is a side project led by Dave Portner, who also fronts Animal Collective. The band formed around 2010, with Portner joined by Animal Collective's Josh Dibb on bass and Brian Weitz (who performs as Geologist in Animal Collective) on drums and keyboards. Eric Copeland played guitar. Their name comes from Portner's childhood interest in horror movies.
They released their debut album 'Enter the Slasher House' in 2014, which included the track 'Little Fang.' A collection of unreleased material called 'New Demos' followed in 2017. Their songs tend toward fractured rhythms and surreal lyrics, with a sound that pulls from psychedelic folk and experimental electronics.
Other songs in their catalog include 'A Sender,' 'Blind Babe,' 'Catchy (Was Contagious),' and 'Duplex Trip.'
