Axé Bits started in Salvador, Bahia in 1992, with a lineup that included Márcio Victor, Bel Marques, Xanddy, Durval Lelys, and Ivete Sangalo. Their first album, 'Swing Chic,' came out the next year and had a hit with 'Meu Amor Chegou.' That song and others like 'Dominga de Bobeira' helped them get noticed across Brazil.
Ivete Sangalo left in 1997 to go solo, and Durval Lelys followed a year later. The band kept putting out records, though, with albums like 'Pode Isso' and 'Bom Demais.' In 2000, they got into some trouble over a song called 'Dança da Manivela,' which some people said encouraged violence against women. They apologized and gave the song's money to a group that helps women.
They made more albums into the 2000s, including 'Cara De Pau' and 'DNA,' and marked ten years together with a compilation in 2005. Their sound mixed axé rhythms from Bahia with pop, and they stayed active for a while after that.
