Azuls formed in Madrid with singer-songwriter Daniela Fernández, guitarist Javier Ortiz, and drummer Mateo Sánchez. Their early sound drew from flamenco and classical music, with some inspiration from the poetry of Federico García Lorca. They released their debut album 'Alas de mariposa' in 2010.
Their 2012 album 'Daniela' included the title track, a ballad that became their most recognizable song. Other tracks from their catalog include 'De Sudeste Para Oeste' and 'Fusca 75'. In 2013, Daniela Fernández underwent surgery for vocal cord nodules and returned to performing.
Azuls continued releasing albums like 'Silencio' in 2015 and 'Eclipse' in 2018. Their music sometimes drew strong reactions, including protests at a concert in Mexico where some listeners interpreted their songs differently than intended.
