B57 formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1995, taking their name from the city's 57 neighborhoods. Their debut album came out in 1997 and included the song "Um Milhão de Palavras," which became a hit in Brazil. The original lineup had five members: Luciano, Julinho, Felipe, Rafael, and another Luciano.
Over time, the group's membership shifted. Felipe and one of the Lucianos left in 2008, replaced by Marcio and Pedro. They kept recording through these changes, putting out albums like "Quero Ser Feliz" in 2000 and "Acústico" in 2003. Other songs in their catalog include "Certezas," "Desconectado," and "Não Importa."
In 2001, there were some plagiarism claims about their track "Como uma Onda," but those were eventually dismissed. Their current lineup features Luciano, Julinho, and Rafael on vocals, with Marcio on bass and Pedro on drums.
