Babalos formed in Osaka in the late 1990s, a group of musicians who started playing together in Japan. They released their debut album 'Ashes to Snow' in 2004, which included the song 'Snow Crystal.' That track became their most recognizable work, a piece that found listeners beyond their home country.
The band's lineup has stayed fairly consistent, with Makoto handling vocals and lyrics, Hiroki on bass, and Kenta playing guitar. Their music tends toward atmospheric arrangements and reflective themes, as heard on songs like 'Evolve' from later releases. They've maintained a dedicated following who connect with that particular sound.
While some critics have found their work too inward-looking at times, Babalos has kept making music on their own terms. They put out another album called 'The Silent Symphony' at some point, continuing in a similar vein. They're one of those groups that operates with a clear sense of what they want to do, and they've done it for a while now.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
