Editor's note

Baby Animals, the Melbourne rock band with Suze DeMarchi

A 1990s Australian rock outfit that formed in 1989 and still plays today.

For a quick sense of them, try 'Early Warning' from the debut or 'Lovin' Lies' from later on. Both have that straightforward rock feel they've held onto.

Their 1991 debut album landed with songs like 'Early Warning' and 'Painless,' giving Australian rock a sharp, radio-ready voice at the time. They've kept at it through lineup changes and a breakup, putting out records like 'Love and Fury' in 2009. You can still hear 'Lovin' Lies' or 'Break My Heart' in their sets now.

They started in Melbourne in 1989 and hit with that self-titled debut in 1991. After original members left, they made 'Shaved and Dangerous' and 'Hunters and Collectors' in the mid-90s. The band broke up in 2003, reformed in 2007, and has been playing since.

Baby Animals formed in Melbourne in 1989, with Suze DeMarchi on vocals, Dave Leslie on guitar, Eddie Parise on bass, and Frank Celenza on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1991 and did well in Australia, featuring songs like 'Early Warning' and 'Painless.'

After Parise and Celenza left in 1993, the band brought in new members including bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Mick O'Shea. They put out two more albums, 'Shaved and Dangerous' in 1993 and 'Hunters and Collectors' in 1996, but neither matched the first one's reach.

The group broke up in 2003 but got back together in 2007 with a different lineup that had Carlo Santone on guitar and Chris Bailey on bass. They released 'Love and Fury' in 2009 and have kept playing since then, with songs like 'Lovin' Lies' and 'Break My Heart' in their set.
