Babyland

Babyland formed in Los Angeles in the late 1980s around singer-songwriter Adam Kramer, with guitarist Kurt Bloch and bassist Doug Livingston. Their debut album '01' came out in 1991, featuring the title track that became their most recognizable song. The band's sound leaned toward atmospheric melodies and cryptic lyrics, with later albums like 'Fear of Men' and 'Broken Heart Attack' continuing in that vein.

Their music often explored darker, introspective themes, which sometimes drew criticism. Kramer went through a period of drug addiction in the mid-1990s that threatened the band's work, but he recovered with support from the group. Drummer Matt Johnson joined in 1994 and remained with them.

Songs like 'A Graduation,' 'Cancer Beat,' and 'Cop-out' show their range within that atmospheric alternative style. They stopped recording after the late 1990s, but their albums still find listeners drawn to that particular blend of melody and mood.
