Sleeping Fawn

When you're a baby fawn

Laying by your mother’s grave

Sleeping beside a dead body

The smell of sweet and rot decay

Weeping over, a cold shoulder

Where sick stole you like a hunter

The only mother, I had

Calling out like you’ve lost your herd

When you only want to be heard

People tip toe around your every word

Cradle a baby in broken glass

Hold fingers up all bloodied

Lay down the pages of a bible fast

The one we used to study

Set on the ground, trampled

Torn and muddy

I wear your scent

Like camouflage, spotted on my spine

I wear your hair, on my scalp

And pretend it’s mine

I take the bones

That you left, and try to build a home

But it still feels empty like ghost roam

How do you live with a broken father

When you’re a baby fawn

Sleeping with its dead mother

Where your flesh, there’s nothing left

And your embrace feels like a shudder
