Bachelorette formed in Melbourne in 1999 after the breakup of Frente!, with Angie Hart joined by her sister Simone and drummer Harry James Angus. They took their name from a 1957 film starring Anita Ekberg. Their debut album 'The Bluebird' came out in 2000, mixing folk and electronica with ambient textures.
In 2003, the single 'Bjork' drew attention when Björk herself commented on its similarity to her own song 'Bachelorette'. The track still found an audience. Later albums like 'Given to the Wild' and 'My Electric Family' showed the band shifting their sound through the 2000s and 2010s.
Angie Hart has spoken about dealing with depression and anxiety, which has shaped some of their music. The band's lineup has included Owen Penglis on guitar and bass and Ben Martin on drums. They released 'Afterglow' in 2018, returning to more ethereal arrangements.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
