Bacilos formed in Bogotá in the late 1990s with Jorge Villamizar on vocals and guitar, Andrés Lopes on bass, and José Javier Freire on drums. Their first album came out in 2000, and they had a hit with 'Caraluna,' a ballad that got attention across Latin America. They followed it with albums like 'Caraluna II' in 2002 and 'Sinvergüenza' in 2004.
Songs like 'Perderme Contigo' and 'Adicto a Ti' showed their knack for straightforward pop with Latin rhythms, not too polished but easy to listen to. Freire left the band in 2007, and Villamizar and Lopes kept going as a duo for a while. They had some dispute over whether 'Caraluna' borrowed from a folk tune, but it didn't stop the song from sticking around.
After the band wound down, Villamizar and Lopes each did solo work. Their music, especially tracks like 'Barcelona' and '¿Sed de qué?', still pops up on playlists and radio, more for its familiarity than any grand statement.
