Bacs came out of the German punk scene in the late 1970s. The band included vocalist Susanne Fellner, guitarist Peter Klemm, bassist Wolfgang Müller, and drummer Klaus Knaup. They built a cult following with a raw, unconventional sound, but their path wasn't straightforward. Financial constraints kept them playing small gigs and releasing singles on their own.
In 1982, they put out their self-titled debut album. The track "Es Is Zu Spät" became an underground hit, carried by Fellner's ethereal vocals and a mournful melody. Despite that initial pushback, it eventually found wider acceptance on German alternative radio.
Bacs released several more albums through the 1980s and 1990s, but none matched the reach of "Es Is Zu Spät." The band also dealt with internal conflicts, and Fellner eventually left.
