A short-lived trio whose atmospheric songs carried personal weight through lineup changes and three albums.
If you want to hear what they were about, 'Hero Drunk' and 'Bathroom Light' frame that atmospheric, introspective sound pretty well. They're both on the top songs list for a reason.
Their music had a specific, somber quality that felt lived-in, not just performed. Songs like 'Hero Drunk' and 'Bathroom Light' carried an introspective tone that some listeners found too dark, but that was the point. Wilson's personal struggles with depression and addiction weren't hidden in the lyrics, which gave the work a particular gravity.
Bad Flanders formed in 1992 around vocalist and guitarist Dan Wilson, with bassist Brad Pemberton and drummer Chris Walla. They released three studio albums between 1995 and 2001, starting with 'Rebellion' which featured 'Avalanche.' Griffin Goldsmith replaced Walla on drums in 1999, and they stopped releasing new music after 2001's 'The Moment of Truth.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
