Their music pulled from funk, hip-hop, and samba, with lyrics that often touched on poverty and social issues in the city. Songs like 'Hole' and 'Jardim Perdido' carried that mix of heavy beats and street-level perspective. In 1996, Claudinho Mattos was shot and killed during a performance in Rio. The band kept going after that, putting out records like 'A Bagunça Continua' in 1996 and 'O Retorno do Rei' in 1997.
