In 1990, their song "Donde Estas Amor" took off and became a national hit. It pushed them into wider recognition, and they followed it with albums like "Bahia Show 94," "Swing Axé," and "Bahia Show 2000." Their music often turned up at summer festivals and beach parties, tying them to the upbeat feel of Bahia.
In 1996, lead singer João Carlos Mota was arrested for drug possession, which hurt the band's image for a while. They managed to come back in the early 2000s, though, and kept touring and putting out new music.
