Bakanas Do Brega

Bakanas Do Brega formed in Belém, Pará in the late 1990s. The group included Niel Lima on vocals, Marquinhos Mara on keyboards, Edson Rodrigues on guitar, Ricardo Costa on bass, and Ruan Ribeiro on drums. Their 1999 album 'Dois Amores' featured the breakout single of the same name, which became one of their most recognizable songs.

Their music worked with traditional brega rhythms while incorporating elements of sertanejo, samba, and pop. This approach gave them a sound that felt both grounded in their regional roots and accessible to broader Brazilian audiences. Songs like 'Alana' and 'Melô do dá dá dá' carried the kind of catchy melodies that made them popular on radio and at parties.

In 2010, they faced accusations of plagiarizing another artist's work, which they consistently denied. Their 2005 compilation 'O Melhor do Bakanas' collected many of these tracks that had become familiar to listeners over the previous decade.
