Archive material and source history
Balaio formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 2000s, a group of musicians drawn together by traditional Brazilian music. They were led by vocalist Tatau, and their sound mixed samba, reggae, and Brazilian folk. Their debut album came out in 2006, simply called 'Balaio'.
Their song 'Terra de Barro' came out in 2007. It's a song about the land and the people connected to it, with Tatau's voice carrying the feeling. In 2012, Tatau left to work on his own music, and the band kept going without him.
