Marty Balin

Marty Balin was the lead singer of Jefferson Airplane, the San Francisco band that became a centerpiece of the psychedelic rock movement in the 1960s. He co-founded the group with Paul Kantner in 1965. Balin's voice, a clear and earnest tenor, was a defining element on songs like "Somebody to Love" and "Volunteers," which came to soundtrack the era's counterculture.

He left Jefferson Airplane in 1971 and later pursued a solo career. In 1981, he released the album 'Hearts,' which included the title track that became his most recognizable solo hit. Balin was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1942. His early musical interests included figures like Elvis Presley.
