B.A.M.A. formed in 1993 in the South Bronx. The band's name stands for Black Angels of Music Association, and their early sound mixed soul, blues, and hip-hop. They played local clubs for a few years before releasing their debut album in 1996.
That album was called 'Sweet Home Al,' and its title track became their best-known song.
After that, B.A.M.A. put out several more albums, including 'The Journey' in 1998, 'Black Angels' in 2001, 'Freedom' in 2005, and 'Renaissance' in 2010. The band's lineup included Al Dixon on vocals, Maceo Parker on saxophone, Sly Stone on keyboards, and George Clinton on bass. They also worked with artists like Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, and Common.
