Banana Com Cevada

Banana Com Cevada formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1980s, with Ney Matogrosso on vocals, Robson Jorge on keyboards, Bruno Blauth on bass, and Marcos Sabino on drums. They came up during the early days of funk carioca, a sound that was just starting to take shape in the city's neighborhoods.

Their 1983 song "Põe Devagar!" became a breakout hit, helping bring their version of Brazilian funk to a wider audience. Other tracks like "Então Vá" and "Goiânia É o Lugar" followed, building a catalog that mixed danceable rhythms with lyrics that sometimes touched on social issues.

In 1989, their album "Sexo e Drogas" drew criticism from conservative groups, and some radio stations stopped playing their music for a time. They kept recording through the years, putting out acoustic and live versions of their songs, and marked their 35th anniversary with a release in 2018.
