Banca CPX formed in São Paulo in 2013 as a collective rather than a traditional band. Their music pulls from funk and hip-hop while keeping Brazilian rhythms in the mix, which gave them a distinct sound from the start. They put out their first album, 'Em Busca do Próprio Estilo,' the following year.
Their 2019 single 'Anota Aí' became their breakout track, connecting with listeners in Brazil's favelas and beyond. The song's straightforward lyrics about daily struggles and aspirations felt immediate, and its rhythm made it hard to ignore. Other songs like 'Morte Lenta Aos Reis' and 'Desconstrução' continued in that vein, often touching on social issues without preaching.
They've released several albums since forming, including 'Nosso Mundo' in 2016, 'Nação CPX' in 2018, and 'Cabeça e Coração' in 2021. Their lineup has included Alexandre Loureiro on vocals, Pedro Oliveira on guitar, Pedro Maia on bass, Matias Travilla on drums, and Pedro Victor on percussion. The group's approach has sometimes drawn criticism for its directness, but they've kept making music on their own terms.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
