Band Aid was a one-off charity project organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984. They brought together British and Irish musicians to record 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' as a response to the Ethiopian famine that year. The song featured contributions from artists like George Michael, Phil Collins, Sting, and David Bowie, who all donated their time to the recording.
Its popularity helped inspire other charity projects, including USA for Africa's 'We Are the World' the following year.
Band Aid was revived in 2014 for a new version of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' with a different lineup of contemporary artists. The original recording remains a seasonal staple, though its lyrics have been occasionally questioned for how they portray Africa.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
