The sidewalks talkin' as i was walkin'

On my usual way to work

He said 'why do you walk the way you do?

Careful not to step on the crack'

Said 'i don't want to do anything that might have offended you

Cuz i know what it's like to be walked on tonight, especially on old boots

And he said 'thank you sir

And for what it's worth we appreciate your careful stride

And when you're passing by

Don't forget to say hi

Because we'll be here all the time'

The church and steeple, filling up with people

Goin' to sing songs of praise

And i look at them with a kind of skepticism

Whats so great about religion?

The steeple pipe says

'don't mind them friend they don't mean a thing'

Hey it's a good to question, we don't get that around these parts

And he said thank you sir, and for what its worth
