Archive material and source history
Banda 4.4 formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1998 with Thiago Pugas on vocals, André Campos on keyboards, Renan Martins on bass, and Renato Rocha on drums. Their name comes from a rhythmic pattern that shows up in a lot of their music.
Their first album, "Não Vá," came out in 2000 and gave them a hit with the title track. They've put out a few more records since then, including "É Só o Começo" in 2002 and "Livre" in 2006.
In 2003 they ran into some legal trouble over a sample in one of their songs, but kept working. They're still mostly known for that early single "Não Vá."
