Archive material and source history
Banda 5º Andar formed in the late 1980s around Renato Russo, who was already known as the frontman of Legião Urbana. The group included musicians from that band, along with collaborators like Eduardo Paraná, Dado Villa-Lobos, and Rodrigo Morcego. They released their first album in 1989.
Their song 'Pais e Filhos' became their most recognizable track, a ballad about parent-child relationships that connected with listeners. Other songs like 'A lua e o Tempo' and 'Negro Amor' appeared on their albums through the early 1990s. They worked with Gilberto Gil on the track 'O Amor em Paz' and performed with Chico Buarque.
After Renato Russo died in 1996, the remaining members continued with the band. They released 'Antologia Acústica' in 1998.
