Banda Antídoto formed in Mexico City in the late 1990s with four members: Jorge Montemayor on vocals, Ramón Ayala on guitar, Gabriel Ramírez on bass, and Pedro Fuentes on drums. They started playing small local venues and festivals, working through the usual early financial struggles.
Their sound shifted from a punk beginning toward something more melodic, mixing rock with ska and reggae touches. They broke through in 2004 with their debut album 'Acordes,' whose title track became a national hit. The song's straightforward melodies and lyrics about love and loss connected widely.
After 'Acordes,' they put out albums like 'Casas de Fuego' in 2007 and 'El Regalo' in 2010. They've worked with other Mexican artists including Julieta Venegas and Ely Guerra.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
