Banda Apnéia formed in Fortaleza, Ceará, with Célio Ferreira as their frontman. Ferreira had severe asthma growing up, and music became an outlet for him. The band played local bars and festivals in their early years, building a following gradually.
Their 1999 album "Rockerinha" found commercial success. Songs like "Eu fiz pra você" and "Dignidade" show their mix of rock, reggae, and Brazilian popular music. In 1998, they faced plagiarism accusations from another musician, which they denied.
They released albums including "Não Acredito em Nada" in 1996, "Até o fim" in 2002, and "Mosaico" in 2012. Their 2002 album won the Prêmio da Música Brasileira for Best Rock Album. The band's lineup included Ferreira on vocals and guitar, Marcelo Madureira on bass, and Eliakin Rufino on drums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
