Banda Arrankabeijo formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2007 with an unconventional lineup that included vocalist Ailton Piauí, accordionist Rubem Tavares, bassist Denis Rego, and drummer Ricardo Gomes. Their sound drew from forró, axé, and traditional Brazilian folk music, with the accordion playing a prominent role.
The debate around the song's morality and censorship didn't stop it from resonating with listeners who recognized something of their own experiences in it.
Along with "Judiação," the band recorded songs like "O Brilho Das Estrelas," "O Meu Amor," "Resolução," and "O Nosso Amor." They released a self-titled debut album in 2007, followed by "A Gente Arrankabeijo" in 2009 and the "Judiação" album in 2011.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
