Banda Austin formed in Monterrey, Mexico in 1996 with Javier Garza on vocals, Pato Machete on guitar, Mario Sánchez on bass, and Federico Fong on drums. They played a mix of rock, ska, and funk that found an audience in the local scene.
Their 1998 album "El Sonido de Mi Tierra" included the single "Inércia," which became their breakthrough track. The song's popularity brought the band wider attention, though it also led to a copyright lawsuit in 2000 over a sample used in the recording.
Machete left in 2003 to work solo, and Fong departed in 2005. Garza has remained as vocalist through various lineup changes, with the band releasing several more albums through 2014.
