Banda Autonomia formed in São Paulo in 1998. Their debut album 'Memórias' came out in 2002, with the title track becoming a notable song for them. The band's lineup included vocalist and guitarist Rodrigo Sá, bassist Douglas Lopes, and drummer Márcio Lenzi.
They released subsequent albums like 'Sentido Contrário' in 2005 and 'Vento Sul' in 2009. At one point in 2004, a concert was canceled due to pressure from conservative groups.
Over time, they worked with other Brazilian artists including rapper Emicida, singer-songwriter Tulipa Ruiz, and musician Gilberto Gil.
