Banda Aval formed in Salvador in the late 1990s, with Andre Lellis as vocalist and composer. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2003, and it included the song "Cachoeiras," which became widely popular in Brazil. The band's music draws from axé, reggae, and funk.
Songs like "Meu Amor," "Nossa Canção de Amor," and "Parar de Chorar" are among their other well-known tracks. In 2009, they faced some criticism over a melody, but they kept working. The lineup has changed over time, though Lellis has stayed with the group.
They've put out several albums since then, and their songs continue to be played. There's no grand story here, just a band from Salvador that made some music people liked.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
