Banda Bagana formed in 2006 with three members from Puerto Rico: René "El Sombra" Lugardo, Joel "El Ñengo" Rodríguez, and José "El Tío" Rodríguez. They started playing local parties and festivals, then put out their first album, "Reggaeton Bagana," in 2008. The track "Cinderela" from that album caught on quickly and helped build their audience.
Their sound mixed reggaeton with hip-hop and Caribbean rhythms, and they toured in Latin America, North America, and Europe. Other songs like "Algo Especial," "Arrocho Gostoso," and "Forró Com Ela" show the range in their catalog. They released several more albums including "El Tiempo" in 2010, "Los Infiltrados" in 2012, and "La Tribu" in 2014.
Some of their lyrics and videos drew criticism for being explicit or provocative, but they kept making music that reflected their background. They put out albums through 2018 with "El Regreso," and songs like "Bitoca Mineira" and "Lembrança de Itauna" stayed in rotation for fans of their style.
