Banda Busic formed in Salvador, Brazil in 1989 with Ricardo Chaves on vocals and guitar, Roberto Mendes on bass, and Márcio Mello on drums. Their sound drew from Brazilian popular music traditions, mixing samba, reggae, and axé into something that felt familiar but had its own pulse.
Their debut album "O Bom e Velho" came out in 1990, and the title track became an immediate hit. That song, along with others like "Ação e Reação" and "Canção Para Julie," gave the band a national audience. They followed with albums in 1992 and 1994, maintaining a steady presence through the mid-90s.
In 1995, Ricardo Chaves left the band after a public incident. Roberto Mendes stepped into the lead vocal role, and the group continued recording and performing under the same name.
