Banda Choque Extremo formed in Fortaleza, Brazil in 1996. The group included vocalist Ninha, keyboardist Valmir Ribeiro, and percussionist Chico. They released their debut album the following year.
Their song "Minha Musa Preferida" became a hit in Brazil. Other tracks like "A Solidão Que Você Deixou" and "Amor Desgastado" also appeared in their catalog. The band put out albums including Pelo Brasil in 2000, Vai de Choque in 2002, and 15 Anos in 2011.
Some of their performances and lyrics drew criticism from conservative circles in Brazil. The group continued performing and recording, with a 2015 release titled De Volta ao Forró.
