Banda COT formed in 1951 in northeast Brazil as a family project. Brothers Odilon, Ezequiel, and José Alves do Nascimento started singing in local Catholic processions with their cousin Zé do Ferro. They built their sound around traditional hymns, though some churches questioned their use of drums and electric guitars.
Their 1985 recording "Maria, Rogai Por Nós" became their most recognized song, but their catalog includes other devotional pieces like "Momentos," "Recua Satanás," and "Senhor, Perdoa-me." They released albums such as "Caminhos do Senhor" in 1972 and "Missa em Canto" in 1981.
Odilon handled vocals, Ezequiel played guitar, José played bass, and Zé do Ferro played accordion. Their music stayed rooted in Catholic worship, and they marked their fiftieth anniversary with the 2001 album "Jubileu de Ouro."
