Banda Doce e Mel formed in 1992 with six musicians from Salvador, Bahia: Victor Hugo, Kiko Gomes, Juninho, Edigar Mão Branca, Carlos Alexandre, and Rony da Silva. They started playing in local bars and clubs. Their debut album 'Tic Tac' came out in 1994, and the title track became a national hit.
In 1996, lead singer Victor Hugo died in a car accident. The band continued after his death. They've released several albums including 'Doce e Mel' in 1995, 'Festa' in 1997, and 'Pra Sempre' in 2001. Other songs include 'Cachorro Sarnento' and 'Escravo da Paixão'.
There was a plagiarism accusation in 2005 that led to a lawsuit and temporary airplay ban for one song. The band disputed the claim. Their current lineup includes Juninho on vocals and Kiko Gomes on guitar.
