Banda Dogtown formed in São Paulo in 1986 with Carlos Mendes on vocals, Antonio Bonifácio and Fernando Almeida on guitars, and Gabriel Amorim on bass. They played a mix of punk, hardcore, and alternative rock, drawing from bands like The Ramones and Nirvana. Their 1999 album 'Sempre Comigo' gave them their most recognizable song, which became a staple in Brazilian rock.
Their music often dealt with social issues, and their energetic shows sometimes drew criticism and police attention. They kept recording through the 1990s and 2000s, putting out albums like 'Não Se Preocupe' in 1996 and 'Cidade Dorme' in 2002. Other songs like 'Acredite' and 'Nossa História' show their range from aggressive riffs to more melodic, heartfelt writing.
They released five studio albums before their last one, 'A Vida Não Presta,' came out in 2006. The band's sound stayed grounded in that São Paulo scene, balancing raw energy with tunes that stuck with listeners.
