Banda Epaminondas formed with Fábio Sampaio on vocals and guitar, Rodrigo Bittencourt on bass, Leonardo Lessa on drums, and Rafael Maruska on keyboards. They put out an EP in 2008, another called Agnus in 2010, and their first full-length album, Coisas, in 2012. The band followed that with Refazenda in 2015 and Afundando in 2018.
Their song Coisas, from the 2012 album, got some attention for its lyrics about poverty and inequality. It's one of their better-known tracks, along with O Velho Rock And Roll, Poema de Amor, and Vício. Their music pulls from Brazilian rhythms like samba and bossa nova, mixed with rock and pop.
