Banda Epopeia formed in Belo Horizonte in the early 1980s, with Henrique Portugal on vocals and guitar, Ricardo "Rick" Morelli on bass, and Marcus Vinícius "Vinca" Pereira on drums. Their debut album came out in 1985, titled "Filosofia Rock." The title track from that record became one of their most recognizable songs.
Their music often blended hard rock with lyrics that leaned toward philosophical themes. They followed that first album with others like "O Homem e o Tempo" in 1986, "Paraíso Perdido" in 1988, and "A Divina Comédia" in 1991. Songs like "Quando criamos asas e Voamos" and "Ventiladores" show that mix of driving rock and reflective writing.
They built a following in Brazil without much concern for fitting industry molds. Their approach kept them going through various criticisms, and they maintained a cult status rather than widespread commercial fame.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
