Banda Excelsis formed in São Paulo in 2003 around vocalist and composer Adilson Santana. They started as a group of young musicians making Christian music with Brazilian rhythms, taking their name from the Latin phrase meaning 'Most High.'
Their debut album 'Excelência' introduced songs like 'Bem Aventurada,' which became something of an anthem in Brazilian Christian circles. Other tracks like 'Tua Graça' and 'Deus Que Nunca Falha' followed on later albums including 'Fiel Companheiro' and 'Mais Forte.'
Their lyrics typically draw from biblical themes and personal faith experiences, focusing on grace, redemption, and worship. While their music found an audience, it also drew some criticism from those who felt it leaned too commercial for a faith-based band.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
