Banda Filemon formed in Caruaru, Pernambuco in 1995, with vocalist Alessandro Alves and accordionist Forró do Gê as founding members. They were joined by bassist Esdras Filho and drummer Flávio José. The group worked with traditional forró rhythms from Brazil's northeast.
Their 1997 debut album 'Namorinho de Agarradinho' included the song 'Vou te Amar,' which became popular in Brazil. The band released several more albums through the early 2000s, including 'Vem Dançar Forró' in 1998 and 'O Forró do Amor' in 1999.
In 2002, Alves faced domestic violence accusations that led to a brief pause in the band's activities. They returned with the album 'Voltarei' that same year and continued recording through 2004's 'De Volta à Estrada.'
