Banda Jovem Levita started in 2002 as a group of four musicians from a youth group in Paulista, Brazil. Cleber, Rafael, Jhonny, and David came together through the Juventude Cristã Evangélica, playing music that felt different from what many churches expected at the time. Their early sound was energetic and direct, which didn't sit well with everyone in their community.
They put out their first album 'Levita' in 2004, followed by records like 'Levitas Nação' in 2006 and 'O Clamor' in 2008. The song 'Adorador Extravagante' from their 2015 album became one of their most recognizable tracks, along with others like 'Alta Madrugada' and 'Eu Sou Levita'. These songs carried a straightforward worship message with a driving rhythm section.
The band kept the same four members through the years, Cleber Lucas on vocals, Rafael Calheiros on bass, Jhonny Dias on drums, and David Mendes on guitar. They released 'Um Novo Tempo' in 2012 and 'Livre' in 2018, maintaining a consistent presence in Brazilian Christian music without much lineup change or dramatic reinvention.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
