Banda Lagunera formed in the mid-1980s in Mexico's La Laguna region. They built a following with regional Mexican music, releasing albums like 'El Cardenal' in 1988 and 'Las Medias Negras' in 1990.
Their song 'Las Medias Negras' became one of their most recognizable tracks, a ballad about lost love. Other songs in their catalog include 'Por Eso Tomo,' 'Porqué Dios Mío,' and 'El Amanecido.'
In 2017, vocalist Francisco Javier 'El Gordo' Luna faced plagiarism accusations regarding songwriting credits. The band denied the claims. Their lineup has included Luna on vocals, David Zaizar on accordion, and Iván Luna on tuba.
