Banda Lapada

Banda Lapada formed in São Paulo in 1982, during a period of political tension in Brazil. Their song 'Opinião' became known for its direct lyrics about social injustice, which drew attention from authorities and led to their arrest in 1985. They weren't subtle about their views, and that straightforwardness connected with listeners who felt similarly frustrated.

Musically, they mixed samba with rock and funk, creating a sound that was both danceable and pointed. Early albums like their self-titled 1984 release and the 1986 'Opinião' record captured that raw energy. Later work, including 1990's 'Mundo Livre', showed them incorporating jazz elements while keeping their lyrical focus on everyday struggles.

Songs like 'Mulher de Um Homem Só' and 'Melô do Amigo Safado' dealt with personal relationships in the same unvarnished way they approached politics. The music held together because the band played with conviction, not because they were trying to fit any particular genre mold.
