Banda Opus Dei formed in Belo Horizonte in the late 1990s, led by vocalist and composer Cássio Cavalcanti. Their song 'Trem Das Doze' became a major hit, mixing axé rhythms with rock and pop elements.
They released albums like 'Axé pra Dois' in 1999 and 'Na Estrada do Axé' in 2001. Other tracks like 'Grande Vitória' and 'Promessa Na Bíblia' kept their sound in rotation on Brazilian radio. The group went through some lineup changes and took a break around 2007 before returning a few years later.
Cássio Cavalcanti remained the central figure, with Pedro Baby on bass, Mario Gusmão on drums, Zé Henrique on guitar, and Téo Azevedo on keyboards. Their music, especially songs like 'Gaita Chorona' and 'Subo Morro', stayed popular in the axé scene without trying to reinvent it.
