Banda Óreganos started playing in 2002 in Culiacán, Sinaloa. The group included Israel Valdez on vocals, Jorge Murguía on accordion, and Sergio Ramírez. They built a local following playing corridos and cumbias at festivals and events.
Their debut album was called "Entre el Amor y el Odio." Later records included "A Um Passo de Encontrar," which became one of their better-known songs. Some of their lyrics about life in the narco world drew criticism, though the band said they were just reflecting what they saw around them.
Over time, the lineup shifted, but Valdez remained as the singer. They kept recording and performing regional Mexican music without much fanfare about evolution or excellence.
