Banda Raha formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1997, with Carlinhos Brown on vocals and guitar, João "Curumim" Santos on percussion, and Dadi Carvalho on bass. They came together around a shared interest in Afro-Brazilian music.
Their song "Cuida de Mim" became particularly well-known. They released albums like "Maré" in 2000, "Raha" in 2003, and "Axé Bahia" in 2006.
Over time, other musicians joined including percussionists Alexinho do Bomfim and Marcos Suzano, bassist Ricardo Passos, and keyboardist Samir Calixto.
