Banda Ritma formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1998, with Alexandre Guedes on vocals, Fernando Gomes on guitar, Marcelo Souza on bass, and Carlos Alberto on drums. They started playing local street festivals and small venues, working with samba and funk traditions. Their debut album came out in 2002, featuring the song "Dias Tristes," which became their most recognizable track.
They followed with albums like "O Samba e o Funk" in 2004 and "Ritmo da Bahia" in 2006. Other songs in their catalog include "Estrela," "Miragem," and "Voar Sozinho." The band's lineup has shifted over time, though Guedes, Gomes, and Souza have stayed through most of it.
In 2010, they faced plagiarism accusations over a song that some said resembled a Brazilian folk classic. The band denied it, saying the work was original. They put out a compilation called "10 Anos de Samba e Funk" in 2012 and another album, "Ritmo do Brasil," in 2016.
