Banda Rival formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1999, started by brothers Cristiano and Marcelo. They worked with samba and reggae rhythms from their region, though early on they didn't have much money or industry support.
Their debut album came out in 2007, with the title track "Novo Dia" becoming a hit that got them noticed nationally. Some critics at the time said they were watering down traditional sounds, but they kept touring and playing shows.
They put out more albums like "Bahia Sem Medo" in 2009 and "Pra Frente" in 2011. Another song people know is "Tudo Que For Demais." Cristiano Alves handled vocals and guitar.
