Banda Rochel formed in 2005 in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Brazil, as a gospel group. Their early lineup included Robson Rocha on vocals, Roger Rocha on bass, Rodrigo Rocha on guitar, Raquel Rocha on keyboards, and Rodrigo Rocha Junior on drums. They started playing in local churches and released their first album, 'A Jornada,' in 2006.
Their second album in 2008, also called 'Anjo Bom,' gave them their biggest song. The title track became a hit on Brazilian gospel charts. Other songs like 'Clube do Javalí' and 'Tô Nem Aí' also found an audience.
In 2010, there were some plagiarism claims about the melody of 'Anjo Bom,' though those were eventually dismissed. The band has sometimes drawn criticism for their positions on social issues while maintaining their gospel focus.
